In this fourth edition of the CFA Institute investor trust study, we examine how trust in the industry has evolved, while the essential characteristics of trust endure.
CFA Institute defines the three themes affecting investor trust today: information, innovation, and influence. Information is essential for trust: the less investors feel informed, the less they trust the financial system. Innovation and the proactive use of technology can enhance trust, and those who trust the financial system more are more likely to be early adopters of innovative products and technologies. Investors’ desire for influence and control is growing and provides opportunities for the investment industry to strengthen trust. Each of these factors are inputs to the trust equation, where credibility and professionalism combine to build trust and value.
The report was compiled using survey data from 3,525 retail investors and 921 institutional investors from 15 global markets.
