I shook my head when I saw the prices today at the local supermarket for chicken, beef, and fish, and my eyes bulged when I experienced sticker shock for lobster and veal. I usually know what to expect to pay for family-sized portions for these meats. Even my beloved seasonal trout is at least 60% higher per pound than I paid last year.
Adding to my concern is an article I read from Cornell Ornithology this past weekend about an eye infection that is wiping out certain wild birds. I certainly hope that it is not transmittable to our domesticated chickens, turkeys, and other fowl.
