Author should examine a number of older top quality companies to determine what their investment opportunities are at the margin. In short, most look really poor. However, many continue to generate significant yields on old projects, some of which are monopolies, and these projects often mysteriously seem to accept maintenance spending at similar high yields. These parts are like high yielding bonds, and some look perpetual.
