Not to take anything away from Turing, but it is even mentioned in the article that ensemble methods were in public use by Netflix way back in 2006-2009. Not mentioned in the article, ensemble methods were also the basis for the Oakland As turn around as depicted in the book (and later movie) moneyball.

Just because it is new to CFA institute doesn’t mean it is new to the financial industry or to the world outside of Charlottesville. CFA institute has been clinically obsessed with CAPM for decades, while real world practitioners moved on many years ago.

It takes many years for ideas in major financial centers (or technology) to make it to sleepy, rural Charlottesville campus
