Things ARE different now. Most importantly, the historical “risk-off trade” is very risky. Allocation really means percentages in equities, real estate, commodities, etc. If you believe interest rates are low “forever”, the bond portion and cash are simply uncommitted. Watch out, bonds are a commitment.
