I would also add that MPT does not sacrifice long-term income for short-term volatility, quite the opposite because long-term return from a selection of investment are the expected returns input. MPT helps balance these long-term returns expectations with volatility so that the final portfolio is the best choice given one's preference for liquidity to the input investment horizon.
