I would love to see an analysis which does take into consideration the supply side of the equation besides culture and habits. More specifically, card acceptance is limited in Germany, they still use cash. You may say it is because they love cash, but it is more valid to say that card acceptance costs a lot, particularly for small merchants, and this looks to me as a policy failure. The cap on card acceptance charges is not really effective. People therefore face the problem every day that they cannot pay for your lunch by card. They then never get used to card payments, not to mention mobile payments. Automatism dictates cash. What about other countries?
