You mentioned the PMJDY plan in India. This plan is free to customers, so I imagine that the government picks up the costs. Does PMJDY stick with plain vanilla services and electronic statements?
Perhaps a U.S. bank could offer a stripped-down bank account as a loss leader. Or perhaps they could just do it for the publicity.
They say that "Charity starts at home," and that's a good principle for corporate social responsibility.
