Agreed, it is a pure absurdity for a bank account to be a luxury good.

However I'd dispute your central point, which I understand to be that fees are neccessary. That is certainly not true in all cases [https://blogs.cfainstitute.org/investor/2014/12/01/free-investing-is-th…]. And a fee that was neccessary one year may not be neccessary the next.
