I think it is quite interesting how we are now forced to discuss currency ethics because of the potential of cash elimination.

I understand the potential discomfort that cash digitisation may cause your mother because of the implications it could have on her bank account. But there are methods to architect a digital cash system that does not necessarily fall into that issue.

Central Banks can issue digital cash (the same way the technically issue physical cash) via a Digital Cash Account [http://positivemoney.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Digital_Cash_WebPri…]. This would mean that a person can hold digital cash (on a smartphone/online or plastic debit card). With Central Bank digital money, people will not be forced to keep all of there money in a commercial bank account. And this is not a pipe dream. For example, the Central Bank of Ecuador already issues there own digital currency via telecoms networks.
