You describe very well the great gulf between digital immigrants and digital natives, and I would only wish to clarify that these divergent views describe a mindset. They are not merely determined by your date of birth.
You and I are both examples of digital immigrants that have embraced digital to the point of being native. We have become immersed in digital culture to the point of being indistinguishable from the digital natives. Other than the wrinkles around the eyes ;-)
Those digital immigrants – and the businesses they lead – that do not adopt an immersive attitude toward digital technology are destined to fall by the wayside.
I give them 5 years tops. By 2020, financial services business models will largely have been transformed by digital technology. The smart ones will have adapted or been sold to someone who has adapted. The others will be roadkill along the disintermediation highway.
