Great interview, I used to work on Oil Rigs in the North Sea and from what I saw, a lot of the companies (but not all of them) are a lot more focused on profits than worker safety. I worked on the safety systems and it was always a matter of as long as the rig scrapes through safety tests, they won't spend the money to increase safety.
Makes me think of that Abraham Lincoln quote "If you give me 6 hours to chop down a tree, I'll spend the first 4 hours sharpening the saw". They don't realise it will save them money in the long run.
