What is amazing is how long some of the research that supports the low volatility effect has been in the financial and academic community. The late Bob Haugen's website (http://www.lowvolatilitystocks.com/) lists out a vast amount of the research (look under Resources / Low Vol Research), covering the various methods to building low volatility portfolios.
