I think that your point that "probit analysis is not really a regression" is misleading. Probit models explore the relationship between a dependent variable and several other independent variables. That makes it regression in my mind. It is not an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, but it typically is estimated by Maximum Likelihood, which can also be applied to the same types of linear models often estimated by OLS.
