Yes, stories help to unite disparate facts, as well as intuition, into a thesis that the whole mind can understand. I am certain that a mythologist, like Joseph Campbell, would agree, too.
I think the authors of CFA Institute's "Emotional Finance" monograph are simply cautioning that stories work only to the degree that they are in accord with reality. If stories reinforce delusion and emotional preferences they can lead investment managers astray. Clearly, telling stories is a highwire act requiring, not just skill, but artful application.
