An astonishing "46% of people witnessed wrongdoing and chose not to report it due to fear of retaliation" (Michael McMillan, 2012). Isn't is sad that we, as employees, are scared to speak up when we see something wrong because we fear the outcome of speaking out. I was once asked what the difference was between a team player and a Whistle-blower and if there ever came a point when they were one in the same. A team player is a person who works well with others as a member of a team or group. A Whistle-blower is a person who stands up and speaks out when they see something that that is bad or wrong in a company or organization. I feel that a team player can also be a Whitsle-blower when it comes to the safety of their team. Safety can mean many things, like the safety of a persons job, health, physical well being etc.. As a team player I feel it is only right to stand up for your team when something happens that is not just or right. We all owe each other the respect to help each other when we feel threatened, especially when everyone in your team feels the same way. No one should have to live with the guilt or go to work with uncertainty, even with the possibility of retaliation. God has a plan for all of us and like John 8: 32 says, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
