I participated in IPOs in the 1990s, when all of these prohibited activities were part of institutional investing. I also recall that institutional salespeople fought tooth and nail for commission allocations, another patronage system of epic proportions.

In this day and age, there has to be a better way. Surely the same technology that created Facebook could be used to raise equity capital in an ethical manner.
