CFA Institute Research and Policy Center Supports COP29 Azerbaijan
Securing a new goal on climate financeAzerbaijan will host the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from 11 November - 22 November in the city of Baku. The theme of this year’s conference is “In Solidarity for a Green World.”
UN Climate Change Conferences (or COPs) take place every year and are the world’s only multilateral decision-making forum on climate change that brings together almost every country on Earth. The convention is a series of formal meetings where governments, together with leaders from business, finance, and the broader sustainability community assess global efforts to advance the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C, and to negotiate the best ways to address climate change.
At COP29, the spotlight is expected to be on financing mechanisms that can propel developing countries toward sustainable development, with an emphasis on green finance.
The Research and Policy Center (RPC) is committed to providing investment professionals with tools and resources for understanding, measuring, and managing sustainability-related risks and opportunities and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment approaches and performance data.
CASI to Deliver Sustainable Finance Presentation at COP29
CFA Institute launched the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), a global initiative that aims to provide quality learning programs, technical assistance, and best practices to support and accelerate the development of sustainable finance in emerging markets and developing economies, at the COP28 Conference in the United Arab Emirates.
At COP29, CASI, the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), and Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) will host “CASI Sustainability Forum for COP29: Creating the Highway for Sustainable Finance,” a forum addressing building capacity in green finance for policy makers, regulators, financial institutions, and stakeholders from Azerbaijan and other countries in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The forum aims to be a platform for exchanging ideas on how green finance can be effectively integrated into local and regional contexts by considering the specific challenges and potential for growth.
