Practitioner’s Insights: Incorporating Climate Change Risks and Opportunities in Investment Analysis

  1. Ankur Gupta, CFA
  2. Sivananth Ramachandran, CFA, CIPM

Climate change will be one of the most economically impactful events in human history. Currently, our profession is somewhat behind the curve in analysing the impacts of climate change. According to a CFA Institute 2020 survey, 75% of global senior-level respondents (and 78% of Indian respondents) said it was important to have a view on climate change to manage investments effectively. However, only 40% of those surveyed (including 34% of Indian respondents) said they were incorporating climate risk into their analysis.

In this webinar, Ankur Gupta, CFA, will discuss how asset managers are incorporating climate change factors in their investment process. Gupta is vice president–sustainable investment at Northern Trust Asset Management. He is responsible for idea generation, product development, and research for sustainable investing strategies and works closely with the investment, sales, and product teams to integrate sustainability and climate change across asset classes. In this webinar, Gupta will discuss the impact of climate change on investments, explain why climate change is important now, and compare the landscape between India and the rest of the world.

Learning outcomes:

  • Gain an introductory understanding of climate change risks and opportunities.
  • Discuss an asset manager’s approach to climate change integration.
  • Review the climate change landscape: India versus the rest of the world.
