Career Insights into Private Equity and Venture Capital

  1. Abhishek Loonker, CFA
  2. Priyank Singhvi, CFA

Private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) are dominant forces in India’s capital markets. The industry has witnessed robust growth in recent years, driven by capital needs of the economy, secondary PE opportunities, and a thriving start-up ecosystem in need of VC. The industry is also becoming increasingly active in new asset classes, special situations, and structured credit.

Players in India include most of the world’s leading PE and VC funds, jostling for space with their Indian counterparts. Several sovereign wealth funds (SWFs), foreign pension funds, and venture and distressed funds are also active in this space.

A key feature of this industry is the variety of professionals that work within it—and not just finance professionals but also those with expertise in other industries and domains. As the industry matures, it will create even more opportunities for all of these players.

To understand more about these opportunities, join Abhishek Loonker, CFA, principal, GEF Capital Partners, as he discusses careers, competencies, and hiring practices in this space.
