Biography
Rossa O'Reilly, CFA, was managing director, institutional equity research, at CIBC World Markets from 1984 to 2010, following 14 years as vice president and director at Dominion Securities (now RBC Capital Markets). Over a 40-year career, he specialized in equity research covering the real estate, conglomerate, and transportation sectors and in developing equity market strategy.
O'Reilly is a past chair and board member of CFA Institute and a past trustee of the CFA Institute Research Foundation. He also served on the board of directors of the Canadian Foundation for Advancement of Investor Rights, the Accounting Standards Committee of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (1985–1988), and the board of CFA Society Toronto, where he served as president in 1984. From 2009 to 2012, he was editor of The Analyst, CFA Society Toronto's quarterly magazine, and has been a frequent contributor to investment publications.
He has contributed to CFA Institute curriculum on industry and company analysis, real estate and REIT analysis, and the structure and functions of the investment industry. He has also been a speaker at industry conferences and on television. O'Reilly holds an MA in mathematics and economics from Trinity College Dublin and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute.
